Discipline Procedures
The environment of NECFC is designed to give all our children choices of play activities and centers. This structure gives the child control over their environment and avoids behavior problems involving conflicts with others.
Children are encouraged to develop language skills that help them communicate their needs and feelings. Language is modeled by adults and older children so that they may gain skills in using this tool for problem solving.
If a child has difficulty being self-directed in one area, they are offered another play space. If the child still cannot make appropriate choices, they are removed from the situation and offered a personal space away from others to regain control. Time limits in this space are set by the child, who may return to the group whenever ready.
Guidelines for behavior are clearly explained to children. Appropriate behavior is modeled, and language is continuously encouraged to avoid conflict and give children opportunities for decision making and self-direction.
To comply with the Department of Children and Families Day Care Requirements, please read and sign this agreement acknowledging your knowledge of these practices.
- We encourage self-discipline, kindness, and respect to others.
- We praise good behavior frequently.
- We handle everyday matters by talking, sitting out for a while to think about the situation, and continued talking.
- When disruptive behavior occurs on a continual basis, we contact the parent.
- If we contact you regarding a disciplinary problem, we consider it the beginning of a larger problem that needs your immediate attention.
- Food, toileting, and rest are not a part of our disciplinary action.
- Spanking or any other form of corporal punishment is prohibited.
